DO YOU HAVE A TON OF GUNS, BUT NEVER SHOOT ANY OF THEM?
More often than not, I hear people talking about buying all sorts of different guns. They spend countless hours pouring over reviews and articles before buying that particular gun. The person buys that gun, shoots a couple hundred rounds through it, and then is on to the next gun purchase.
While I understand the need to purchase guns, more important is the ability to "shoot" the guns you have. The ability to shoot might sound overly simplistic. This is not just a matter of taking it out of the box and sighting in.
Can you really run that gun? If it's a long gun, do you know the muzzle velocity for your particular round? Should you use a different round depending on the application? Can you quickly reload, clear malfunctions, and shoot quickly with accuracy?
The same questions apply to a handgun. Can you draw and shoot quickly from a concealed position? Can you rapidly engage multiple targets or shoot with your support hand only? Can you clear malfunctions one handed?
If the answer is "No" to many of these questions, you should consider taking some of the money you were going to use on another gun, and putting it towards a training class to develop your skills. Different guns will come and go, but the skills you learn will carry over across many different platforms.
