HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
From the Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness….
Independence Day is here. Why does it matter? It’s not just about going to parades and watching fireworks. In school you were probably taught that the colonists were upset about “No taxation without representation.”
However, the real principles were about liberty. The colonists wanted to be able to govern themselves locally. They also believed in being able withdraw themselves from a destructive government and institute a new government (i.e. secession).
It follows that if we have the natural right to life and liberty, we also have the natural right to protect that same life and liberty, namely, the natural right of self defense. Your liberty and freedom rests in this fact and is what keeps you free. The founders of this country, while imperfect like we all are, recognized that free people remain free because they are armed.
They enumerated this natural right in the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
You are free because you have the ability to protect your freedom with a firearm. How ready are you? You owe it to yourself and your family to protect them. Be ready.
