PART OF THE ESSENTIAL CCW KIT – CARRY AN EXTRA MAGAZINE

WPC's Preclusion IWB holster and mag pouch

Much like carrying a flashlight or a pocket knife, an extra magazine for your CCW pistol is another essential part of kit to keep with you.  While it is a little extra to carry, if you end up in a situation requiring the use of your firearm, you may need that extra magazine.

Here are a few situations that would require you to you have an extra magazine:

  1. A gunfight with multiple attackers may cause you to expend all your ammo in your primary magazine, requiring a reload.

  2. Improper seating of the initial magazine or accidentally hitting the magazine release under stress, dropping your primary magazine to the ground.  You may or may not have the ability to pick up the magazine from the ground.

  3. A malfunction that forces you to strip out your primary magazine to clear the malfunction, like a double feed.

The extra magazine should be kept in a mag pouch on the side opposite of your firearm in location that can be easily accessed with your non-dominant hand.  Avoid putting your sole extra mag in your pocket unless that's your only option.  You want to be able to access magazine when needed without thinking about it (i.e.  grabbing the magazine via muscle memory).
